The PMC needs help in defining the next social media event

Dear PMC members,

The PMC board is working on the definition of the next social media event. As you may recall, the PMC has hosted two events thus far. For a copy of the webinar from June, please use the following link: http://www.slideshare.net/dansears/a-social-media-framework-for-b2b-product-managers-and-marketers.

The PMC board is proposing the following three ideas and would like your feedback:

1. How to develop a social media plan and budget;
2. What social media tools to use based on your product's lifecycle;
3. How to develop a business case for making an investment in using social media. (i.e. how to convince your management)

You will soon hear about a way to vote on these ideas, but don't be shy! We'd like to hear your ideas, too.

Thanks,

Jeff

Of the three above, I'd be interested in #3 the most. I think it would be interesting to hear about ways in which social media contrasts with traditional advertising channels and other online advertising efforts. I also like suggestions by Gwen to call out the particular uses of social media -- marketing, customer service, detecting market trends and doing market research, etc.

What role do applications (on social media platforms) play, and how about the impact of the mobile market?

Sounds like an interesting event -- looking forward to hearing more details about it.

Definitely interested in creative ways to establish some type of ROI for social media. Also, usage/incorporation into different products. Another question is some sense of consumer usage.

I think #3 - business case and ROI would be great

Of the three listed above, I'd be most interested in hearing more about developing a plan and budget. I'd also like to add the idea of exploring ways in which to execute on a social media plan given that each blog post, response to blogs, tweet, profile /group creation etc. all take up so much time. I would like to gain a better understanding of what makes sense to outsource (and what doesn't) given that my business is all about subject matter expertise and therefore the typical outsourcing model likely won't apply.

I think its worth exploring social media valuation--how can you deliver KPIs on social media in a meangingful fashion?
