Hi all -

I'm on a hunt for a product roadmap template or tool that ties together market-facing features with backend applications - so basically I need to have a roadmap that shows both product/feature releases and application development work going on in parallel. I need to do this because my company has limited resources that are split across revenue generating work and internal work that keeps our system afloat. It's all important though to the executives and they're often looking for the internal work on a roadmap.

Anyone face this challenge or have suggestions?

thanks

Jenny

This is pretty common to want to track all of the development activities on an internal roadmap, whether they are for end user features or internal projects. Depending on the form of your roadmap doc, it can just be another section that aligns the application work in the same timeframes as the feature work. There's a conceptual image of it on wikipedia under Technology Roadmaps - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_roadmap.

With the concept image towards the bottom and links to here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Purpose_programme_planning.jpg

You should be able to adapt the concept to any form that your internal roadmap takes.

Hope that helps.

Hi Jenny,

I agree with Don that this is a common issue.  I hope you'll join us for the Feb 23 PMC session on Roadmapping, and check back on this site for notes and materials from the session.

Cheers,

This is always a challenge to do and maintain. I'm sure the event (http://pmcnw.org/events/roadmapping-from-the-muddled) on the 23rd is going to help provide ideas to ease the pain.

Cheers,

Haig
